5 Free alternatives to MegaUpload

megaFile sharing giant MegaUpload is dead. Prior to its closure, it accounted for almost 4% of the web traffic and boasted about 50 million users a day. The closure means search for alternatives. So here’s a list of 10 alternatives to share your files.

  • Windows Live SkyDrive: This service is offered by Microsoft and hence is very unlikely to be closed by the feds. Users get 25GB of free space. The service is very fluid, you can control the data in many ways. Can make your folders private or public and share them via link and can be embedded in websites across the web. The only drawback is you can not upload a file of greater than 50 MB in size.

 

  • RapidShare: It lets you upload files of unlimited size and share them via Facebook, Twitter and email.There is no storage limit but files get deleted automatically after a certain period of time. You can upgrade to pro account if you want to use this a a cloud storage service.

 

  • DropBox: Offers 2 GB of free space and lets users share the files in their public folder. You can also share the files with other DropBox users via email invite. Users can upgrade to 50 GB for $ 10/Month or 100 GB for $ 20/Month.

 

  • Minus: One of the easiest file sharing option out there. It lets users upload any file (upto 2 GB) which can be shared automatically by the links generated.

 

  • Filesonic: Much more robust, offers free users a storage time of 30 days and maximum upload of 1 GB. For $ 9/month, users get unlimited storage, unlimited storage time, better download speeds and max file uploads of 5 GB. Files are shared via links.
