CANADIAN PHONE MAKER Research in Motion (RIM) has leaked a handful of images of its upcoming Blackberry 10 operating system (OS).
There's a reasonable level of hype surrounding the Blackberry 10 OS and now Crackberry has released images of the user interface. The system will run on smartphones and tablets and seems to draw inspiration from the rival operating systems Android, Windows Phone and iOS.
One of the leaked photos taken from a briefing document shows four interactive boxes that look like a cross between Android widgets and Windows Phone live tiles. The new look home screen appears similar to Apple's Iphone with four rows of apps and folders with further controls at the bottom. These both look a great deal more customisable and versatile than the existing interface on Blackberry 7.
An interesting observation is that the phones in the pictures are current Blackberry devices. This somewhat contradicts the fact that that RIM has said its existing handsets won't be upgraded when Blackberry 10 arrives.
The remaining pictures show a universal inbox, which will be one of the main features coming to the Playbook tablet with the Playbook 2.0 OS. Lastly is the caller display screen which includes a video chat button.
RIM hasn't given a very specific date for when Blackberry 10 will tip up. Its new CEO said "later this year" at RIM's Developer Conference in Europe last week. The first device to come out with the OS will be the Blackberry London, which was leaked for the second time at the beginning of this month.
