AT&T has sold more than 200,000 of Apple Inc's latest iPhone in the first 12 hours and said in a statement it had seen "extraordinary demand" for a gadget unveiled just a day before the death of the visionary Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.
The latest iPhone introduced on Tuesday didn’t satisfy the fans who were hoping for a major change in the device from its predecessors. But analysts at Wall Street are betting that hardware updates and software enhancements, including a well-reviewed voice-recognition software system, will will surely appeal the buyers.
AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Sprint began taking US online orders for the device on Friday.
iPhone has faced stiff competition from the Android powered smartphones in the recent times. Both Google and Samsung were expected to announce some new products on Oct 11 but later on extended the dates to mourn the demise of the Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs.
With Apple fans paying tributes and lining up at the Apple stores all around the globe, the newest device in the iPhone series which would hit the stores this 14th is expected to cross the sales figures that its earlier versions had set.
