Windows 8: A true risk by Microsoft

Windows 8, as demoed by Microsoft at the D9 leaves a clear hint that Microsoft wants a change. But are the customers ready for it?
The success of Windows Phone has its impact on Windows 8 UI. Microsoft has designed the interface more for a touch display than the traditional models of PCs we use today. This is for sure a risk, a great one for troubling Ballmer. With touch displays to be used for best performance of Windows 8, the cost of the display would increase manifold than what today is. This will have its impact on the net  cost of a PC.
Microsoft has said in a statement that we will be able to use Mouse and keyboards as input device but i doubt that will prevail for long as the PC manufacturers would sight more profit and would develop touch panels rather than the traditional display units we use today. Touch input would certainly not be a good idea in the subcontinents where people spend cautiously on the electronics.

The next big hurdle is, Microsoft is betting too much on the Cloud. With Office 365 being released soon, expect a sure integration of it in Windows 8 and too a certain extent of my belief, you will get these costs included with the Windows price. Microsoft has said that their next OS will run rich applications developed in HTML5 (a clear hint that it will be more web centric) proves the fact that we are going to have a definite Cloud integration.

At the end of the day,I can only hope that Bill Gates "A PC in every home with Microsoft Softwares" dream does not come to an end because of the risk taken by Steve Ballmer.
