Microsoft showed off IE10 platform preview for the first time at MIX11 and it inherits the revolutionary changes in Internet Explorer series that IE9 started. you can download it from here. Here is how it looks.
Even more browsing space than what IE9 offers. If you have to open a website or a local file on your computer, get over to Page > Open and then type the address of the site you wish to surf. This is not obviously something the consumers would want to have in their browser. But since this is just in its first stage of production, it is mainly aimed at developers (coding geeks like me, interface doesn’t matters).
One of the interesting options in the IE10 platform review is you can set Geolocation tracing for the sites easily by going to Page > Allow websites to track your location. This feature is rapidly getting popular and applications such as Facebook Places, Four Square are offering these.
Another important feature is that you can set your Document mode fromIE5 to IE10. How cool for those business guys who can’t think of migrating their apps from IE6 to later. This option is again of importance for the developers rather than the general users. Developers can check their websites or web apps in different IE modes having just one IE 10 (IE9 has mode from IE7 to IE9).
As said, this platform review is more developer oriented. Press F12 and you would get the developer tools. Here are some screenshots.
So, it provides a hell lot of option for the developers to keep them busy. One important point of note here is the Validate option in the menu bar under developer tools. Click here and an automatic validation report for HTML, CSS, Feeds, Links, Local HTML etc. can be generated. Here is the HTML validation report for the Default home page of IE 10 Platform Review.
So, finally it looks like the guys in Redmond are now realizing the fact that they have to be quick in launching versions. A first look of IE10 in just a month after IE9 was launched shows that some tough discussion is out there at One, Microsoft way, Redmond, WA.
